Mindful Navigation

Enjoy the journey.

Most navigation apps have one goal: shave off another minute. Mindful Navigation has a different one: to get you there feeling better than when you set off.

Quieter roads, by design

The drive you’d plan yourself, with a paper map and an afternoon to spare.

Mindful Navigation looks for routes that skirt round towns rather than through them, favouring the pleasant country roads in between. You decide how far to go with it.

  • Avoid towns. Routes steer around built-up centres wherever there’s a sensible way round.
  • Avoid motorways, if you’d like to. Switch it on and motorways are left out of your route entirely.
  • Avoid dual carriageways, if you’d like to. Busy, fast dual carriageways are steered around strongly, but you won’t be sent on a huge detour just to dodge a short stretch.

Three ways to travel

Journey quality over speed.

Most navigation apps chase the fastest possible time. Mindful Navigation starts from a different question: how good can the drive be? Each style lets you choose how much time you’re happy to trade for a nicer journey.

Mindful

A calmer way that stays close to the quickest time. Ideal for everyday journeys when you’d still like to be prompt.

Relaxed

Gives the route more room to wander, trading some extra time for quieter, prettier roads.

Leisurely

For days when the drive is the point. The scenic way round, at an unhurried pace.

Each style offers up to three distinct routes with their times and distances side by side, so you can see exactly what a nicer drive takes before you set off, and decide for yourself.

Explore along the way

Stop for coffee, not for traffic.

The Explore tab shows cafés, pubs, attractions and villages alongside your chosen route, drawn right there on the map. You can see at a glance which places are an easy detour and which would take you out of your way.

Found somewhere you like? Add it as a stop and Mindful Navigation re-plans the journey around it.

Planned on your phone

Routes are worked out on your iPhone using a built-in map of England’s roads, so planning a journey doesn’t depend on a good signal.

Straight to the map

Open the app and you’re on the map, ready to type where you’re going.

Home, favourites and recents

Head home, or back to a favourite or recent place, in a tap.

England, for now

Mindful Navigation currently covers England. We’d love to add Scotland and Wales in time.

Where we are

Being road-tested on real drives.

Mindful Navigation is in private testing on iPhone, out on the lanes of the Cotswolds and beyond, often with a golden retriever in the back. It isn’t on the App Store yet. If you’d like to hear when it is, just drop us a line.
